Chairul Tanjung

Chairul Tanjung was born in Jakarta. His parents are AG Tanjung and Halimah. He was born into a very wealthy family, because his father was a reporter and founded a magazine company. In the new order era, his father's business was closed by the government because it helped the old order era. The family's economy changed 180 degrees where their large houses and cars were sold to cover debts and to make a living, they had to live in small apartments. His parents want their children to be successful so they work in a company. Chairul completed Boedi Oetomo High School in 1981. He obtained his bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia. He became a national aristocrat student in 1984 and 1985. While studying, he and his two friends started a shop that sold books and T-shirts and then they quickly became large stores selling doctor and laboratory equipment. In his spare time, he ran a business until he left dental school and founded PT CT Corp with 150 million rupiah in assets borrowed from Exim Bank. They produced shoes for children and got orders to make 160 pairs of shoes to Italy, but a month after the order, he separated from his two friends because he had different thoughts about business.
